Kim Green

Candidate for Co-op Board of Directors (Incumbent)
I am originally from the Grand Rapids, MI area. I grew up in Hancock starting at age 9 and graduated from Hancock High School. I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. I moved to the Twin Cities, MN for a while and then back to the Keweenaw in 1993. My husband Greg and I purchased 40 acres in Keweenaw County. We figured out how to build a house and lived off the grid for 6 years before adding modern conveniences. I am a mental health therapist working for the Veterans Administration since 2012. I live with my husband Greg (former co-op employee) and two cats who have never worked.

Why would you like to serve as a member of the Co-op’s Board of Directors?
I would like to continue to serve on the Board of Directors. Having served the past 3 years has given me a great opportunity to better understand the Governance Board Model and how I can be effective as a Board Member in supporting the Co-op in reaching its goals, by supporting the General Manager. I have been a Keweenaw Co-op member since 1993. Prior to that, I was a member of the Wedge Co-op in Minneapolis. I lived in an Artist's Co-op in St. Paul for 5 years. I have served on other boards including the "Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter" and "Heart and Hands" locally.

Do you have particular skills you would like to explore and share in your service on the Board of Directors?
Excellent communication skills, thoughtful, team player, serve for the good of the whole, not my particular interests.
